What is Varidesk Pro Plus 36? – Any Alternatives?

You’ve finally decided that the adjustable standing desk converter (or sit to stand desk converter) may be the right one for your needs. Well, you came to the right place. In this article, we will focus on the top adjustable standing desk converter brands that are hot in the market right now and some great brands that won’t put too much stress on your wallet. I will also include YouTube links to give you more of a visual representation for a more informed decision.

Keep in mind that the converters don’t always come fully assembled. When it does, the only work that will be required on your part is to place it on top of your desk, as we’ve mentioned before. Therefore, no assembling will be necessary. The ones that do require assembling takes roughly 20 minutes or fewer to set up.

So, what is Varidesk Pro Plus 36? Without further ado, let’s get into it.

Varidesk Pro Plus 36

The Varidesk Pro Plus 36 is quite the mouthful, but it is currently one of the most popular version of the sit to stand desk converter. It has a spring-loaded lifting mechanism that enables you to easily lift up to 35 lbs to support your laptops, computers, etc. It also has a wide range of support for different heights; including 6’1 or higher.

A common feature of the sit to stand desk converter is that it requires the engagement of both hands in order to effectively lift the desk to the desired height. However, that is the extent of the effort that will be needed.

The Pro Plus 36 offers you a full lower level deck dedicated for your mouse and keyboard which gives you more room to store more items on the surface of your desk.

Varidesk Pro 36

Varidesk also has another model called the Varidesk Pro 36 which also supports up to 35lbs. It is about 1 inch shorter than the Pro Plus 36 when fully extended yet has more desk space. If you are wondering how that is possible, it is due to the design.

The Pro Plus 36 has a sleek curve appeal that chips away from having a full desk space while the Pro 36 offers you a fully squared flat surface with no additional curves; therefore, you gain more space.

However, while you get more desk space with the Pro 36, you also lose the additional lower level deck for keyboard and mouse that the Pro Plus 36 offers.

FlexiSpot M2B Standing Desk

While the Varidesk converter is at the top of the line, it is also one of the most expensive ones out there. If you are looking for a more budget-friendly converter, there are certainly more cost-effective brands that does the job just as well.

One of these alternatives, is the FlexiSpot M2B Standing Desk which not only cost less than both versions of the Varidesk, but also comes with gas spring hovering system that allows the workstation to adjust for sitting or standing with a light squeeze of the handle with just one hand!

It also has a wider lower deck level for storing your keyboard which can also be removed if you do need the additional keyboard space. A feature the Varidesk converters does not have.

The FlexiSpot M2B also remains within the foot spring of the desk as the height is being adjusted. Therefore, it does not protrude or come out to achieve the lifting effect, but remains level with the desk. If you are in a constrained space, you won’t have to worry about pulling away from your desk. It holds up to 35 lbs and also supports people’s height of up to 6.5 feet tall when fully extended.

VIVO Height Adjustable Standing Desk-DESK-V000B

Another alternative is the VIVO Height Adjustable Standing Desk-DESK-V000B which is very similar to the Varidesk Pro Plus 36. Both machines require two hands to rise, has a lower level deck for the mouse and keyboard, and also has a curve design in the front of the desk .

One feature that I find can be a deal breaker for the Vivo desk is that it does not come fully assembled. According to the manufacturer, it takes approximately 20 minutes to put it together. However, if you do not mind a little handiwork, this should pose no problem.

It also contains a small tray towards the front end of the desk for storing your writing utensils such as pens, pencils, etc. And gives you the option to unscrew the keyboard deck if you have no need for the added space.

Some Vivo models can be electric which most customers have certified is worth the extra money as they have observed that it can be a little difficult to bring the desk back down. Unlike the other converters I have previously mentioned, the Vivo desk converter can hold up to 37.5 Lbs with the top surface measuring at 36” x 22”.

  • Can be electric
  • Required two hands to lift

Product Specifications:

    • Supports up to 37.5lbs
    • Does not come fully assembled; takes 20 minutes to set up

VIVO Height Adjustable Standing Desk-DESK-V000V

A more economical choice is the VIVO Height Adjustable Standing Desk-DESK-V000V which I like to refer as V00B’s youngest brother. It can hold about 33lbs as opposed to the 37.5lbs the DESK-V000B can carry and has a minor difference in design. Unlike the V000B, the V000V has a removable keyboard tray, but does not come with the option to be electric.

Uptrak Standing Desk

If you are really pinching pennies and are looking for the best value without compromising on performance, your best option would be the Uptrak Standing Desk by Stand Steady .

The UpTrak Dual will support up to 25 lbs of weight per level. It does not come fully assembled but it is super easy to set up. The installation process takes up to 15 minutes according to the manufacturer. Unlike the other converters, the adjusting process is slightly different. It adjusts by manually unlocking the levers, raising it to a standing position, and then locking the levers in place! It does not require electricity nor a pump system to lift it up as we’ve seen with the other like the other models.

Final Thoughts

Hopefully, you now have a better idea as to what is a Varidesk Pro Plus 36? We’ve mentioned that it is one of the hottest brands in the market right now that offers you some great features such as an extra lower deck. However, each brand offers you their own take on what the sit to stand desk converter should have. Essentially, they all do the same thing; provide you with the means to build on top of your existing desk to enable you to adjust it to a comfortable position whether you sit or stand. Some offers you the added comfort of storing your writing utensils, while others offer you the added space of a full lower deck for your keyboard and mouse.

My personal recommendation is the Flexispot M2B Standing Desk as it has extra desk space, requires only one hand to lift, and offers  a straight rise to easily move away from your desk which I absolutely love. After all, the less work I gotta do, the better. And I must admit, the price was not too cringe-worthy for the features I was getting.

When deciding on the best converter for your needs, take into account your level of comfort, the features that comes with it, and if you are looking into a desk converter that is already assembled or requires one hand to lift as opposed to both. The goal is that it should work for you.

  6. I don’t think people realize how amazing the Vivo Height Adjustable Standing Desks are. They offer so many options in adjustability and productivity in the office area. Sitting at your desk all day destroys your back and overall health. Having a height adjustable desk is a huge deal and makes all the difference and Vivo is the Nike of height adjustable desks in my book!

  7. Hi Steven,

I absolutely love these desks! I honestly did not even know these existed.
Thank you so much for this site and the very usefull information on these different standing desks, that will make MY LIFE so much easier in the future.
Great job on explaining them and the videos do the rest.
My favorite is the VARIDESK 49900.

  8. Nice comparisons and nice visuals to give us a better idea of what it would like “in use”. It seems to be more of a “fact sheet” blog post.

Do you have a favorite? Do you know anyone who had any of the models you mentioned to share their story? Do you have estimate price points for each? Just a few thoughts as I enjoyed reading this but left wondering, outside of price and assembly, what made him choose these particular ones?

Thank you so much for sharing!

    • Hi Angie!

      Thank you for the feedback.

I listed the top converters in the market right now and offered some alternatives for those who are price conscious without losing on performance. The post was aimed to be factual by providing the different converters out there so that those who are looking for a great converter can make an educated decision as to which works best for them as not everyone needs and wants are the same.

However, I went ahead and added my recommendation as well.
